How It All Began

The story behind our beginnings is about opportunity, values, and relationships. Our founder, Carl Langschmidt, arrived in Canada in 2003 from South Africa. Carl had high-rise hopes and dreams; like many immigrants, he saw Canada as the land of milk and honey (actually maple syrup). He started his career in real estate and immediately saw the opportunity to give home buyers the data and insight they needed to feel confident in buying a home. Carl’s first website, mrloft.ca, gave loft buyers what they were looking for, but he soon realized the condo market needed a similar resource. He pulled together a team of friends and resources and got working on condos.ca in August 2010. They launched condos.ca in early 2012, but despite building a great condo resource, they learned first hand the mantra, ”if you build it, they will come” did not apply to web traffic, at least not right away. Over the years, the site has steadily grown into a major player in the Toronto real estate space.

Ever since the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board began releasing MLS data, condos.ca has augmented this information within our algorithm to provide buyers and sellers with more comprehensive insights to make informed decisions. Noticing the rapid growth of metropolitan and suburban areas, the company broadened its vision beyond condos and lofts to provide access to data, trusted advice, and seamless service to everyone, regardless of their preferred property type, leading to the birth of property.ca in 2014.

When we started, our company was a tight-knit team of 30 agents but over the span of two years, we quickly grew. By 2016 we were already at 100 + agents and increased our roster to 200 agents in 2018! It wasn't long before we started expanding into different parts of Canada and the GTA. In 2016 we opened our west coast location in Vancouver along with a branch in Vaughan in 2018. In 2019 we established an office in Mississauga, continuing our growth in the local market.

In 2022, Proptech investment and management services firm RealServus saw the huge potential and acquired property.ca brokerage. This unlocked even more opportunity for growth in our web sites as well as investment in new technologies and innovation. 

Today we are a powerhouse trusted by over 1M+ registered users, with a top ranked site on Google (condos.ca) and a team of 250+ agents (and growing)!
